The 2018 National Safety Stand-Down and Safety Week benefit the construction industry by showcasing safety and solutions.

United Tool and Fastener (UTF) assists in solving the industry’s safety pitfalls by presenting safety and fall prevention demonstrations in the greater Houston, San Antonio and College Station areas.

The safety week(s) are a show of force and an opportunity for people and companies in the construction industry to work together for a vitally important cause.

Various companies including Microsoft, Roger O’Brien, Tellepsen, Milestone Metals and Brookstone, among others, benefit from the safety presentations given by UTF’s Safety Specialist, Charlie Gertson.

“This is a very important time each year for the construction industry. These weeks highlight safety and fall prevention and its importance to each company and the individual workers,” Gertson said.

“Safety is a key part of what makes a company successful.”

The purpose of the Safety Stand-Down is to raise awareness throughout the construction industry of the ongoing commitment to eliminating worker injury, and to clearly communicate its dedication to a shared culture of safety-for every worker, every week. It is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety and about various job hazards employees face, protective methods, and the company’s safety policies and goals. It can also be an opportunity for employees to talk to management about fall and other job hazards.

The ultimate goal of the Safety Stand-Down and Safety Week is raising the awareness of construction safety to a new level in Texas and the United States.

Historically, the Construction Industry Safety Initiative (CISI) includes 12 major contractors who meet every other year for a two-day meeting on just safety. CISI holds a Safety Summit that includes more than 30 major contractors in the United States.

OSHA partners with key groups to assist in the Safety Stand-Down, which is specific to preventing falls, including the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the National Safety Council, the U.S. Air Force, and the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers.
