PIP heat productsAs winter shifts into spring, it is important to keep in mind that the heat of summer is just around the corner. With the higher temperatures of spring and summer come the need to familiarize workers with ways to avoid heat stress. Protective Industrial Products (PIP) has a large variety of products made specifically for workers whose jobs put them at risk from sun and heat exposure.

United Tool and Fastener offers an assortment of PIP products. When considering heat protection, it is important to take into consideration several factors for what type of products are necessary, including whether workers are in direct sun or not, how long workers are outside, and in the sun, and how high the temperatures are projected.

If workers are outside, it is important to keep skin protected from the sun. One way to do this is by utilizing various sun hats with long brims and/or neck shades in back and clothing that comprises ultraviolet-blocking material.

PIP heat-protective clothing includes four categories:

  1.  Absorptive
  2. Evaporative Cooling
  3. Phase Change Cooling, and
  4. Sun Protection

PIP’s Absorptive line of products include those such as the Clima-Band, which is a multi-use, seamless head and neck band that absorbs sweat and resists sun, wind, dust and odors. Additionally, products such as the EZ-Cool cellulose sponge or terry cloth sweatband for hard hats help keep perspiration out of workers’ faces and eyes.

Meanwhile, PIP’s Evaporative Cooling line of products include an array of shirts, vests, sleeves, neck shades, ranger hats, towels, and tie hats. These unique products can offer heat stress protection while offering an array of benefits (depending on the individual product) including being water repellent, ultraviolet protection, five- to 10 hours of cooling relief, odor control, moisture-wicking material, and high-visibility colors.

Furthermore, PIP offers its Phase Change Cooling line of products, which helps cool workers in construction, welding, mining, metal work, oil rigging or industrial sites by utilizing frozen cooling packs in the vests. The cooling effect lasts up to three hours, and vest sets include one set of cooling pack inserts with insulated cooler bag. Additional cooling packs can be obtained in sets of two and four.

Lastly, PIP’s Sun Protection line includes high-visibility ranger hats and hard hats with neck shades in addition to high-visibility hard hat visors and neck shades as well as flame-resistant (FR) hard hats, visors, and neck shades.
