UTF toy driveFor at least the last ten years, United Tool and Fastener, San Antonio, has participated in “Construct a Kid’s Christmas,” which is administered by Construction News. Various UTF employees in addition to customers come together to give all they can muster to buy bicycles for children under the care of the Bexar County Child Welfare Board.

“Every year in San Antonio, we scrape up all we can and buy bicycles to donate to ‘Construct a Kid's Christmas’, a program put together by Buddy and Reesa Doebler of Construction News,” UTF Sales and Marketing Vice President, John Calhoun, said.

The charity event has become a holiday tradition of giving.

“Over the years, we have given or bought hundreds and hundreds of bikes,” Calhoun added. “Sometimes our customers help us to buy the bikes we give.”

This year, United Tool and Fastener is giving 36 bicycles to “Construct a Kid’s Christmas”.

Each year, Construction News holds a fundraising gala and collects toys. After the event, they take the toys and contributions and present them to the Bexar County Child Welfare Board, which supports child welfare in Texas.

“We buy a table of ten seats and usually invite our inside and outside salespeople,” Calhoun explained.

“This year, my wife and I went and were accompanied by two DeWalt reps, two Milwaukee reps and their spouses. We all had a great time and helped raise money for a good cause.”

The fundraising gala event includes dinner, a live band, and a cash bar in addition to silent and live auctions.

The Texas Council of Child Welfare Boards' (TCCWB) mission is to support a statewide network of volunteers concerned with the welfare of children, especially those suffering from abuse and neglect.
